The Spot - New Haven: Reviews & Ratings
We had my daughter’s rehearsal dinner at The Spot and it was perfect! Say good bye to boring rehearsal dinners- this is the place to go! The staff was so accommodating and interacted with the brides. I couldn’t of ask for better!
I had the pleasure of eating at “The Spot” last night and boy was I pleased with my experience. Not only is the pizza far superior than Sally’s in terms of quality and flavor but this is the original joint that Frank started, brick oven and all! We ordered the small original tomato pie with mozzarella. The pizza was thick enough to stand on its own, cheesy and delicious, and had an incredible flavor profile. I can’t stop thinking about it! For those who are confused about the two places, let me clear it up for you: you wait in the main line outside “Frank Pepe’s” and if you’re lucky, they tell you that there’s a table in the back for you at “The Spot”. Per the waitress, Frank started at The Spot and expanded to Frank Pepe’s in the front. What does this mean for you? It means your wait time is cut in half because there are two buildings for you to que into. There are also two parking lots, one on either side of the Frank Pepe’s building.
Our daughter and her husband recently had their wedding rehearsal dinner at The Spot. All of the staff could not have been nicer. They were so welcoming and accommodating. The pizza was fantastic and they kept bringing out as many as we asked for. They even asked if there were any kinds they did not bring out and they would be happy to make them. Jeff was so nice to work with and Ben could not have been sweeter. The Bride and Groom were able to make their own pizza right there in The Spot kitchen, with Ben showing them the "tricks of the trade." He was an amazing teacher! How cool is that? Do not hesitate to have any sort of celebration event at The Spot. They were the bomb!!
Pepes ( or The Spot- original Pepes place) is THE BEST ahbeetz ever out of anyplace worldwide! I know that’s quite a claim to make considering I couldn’t possibly have eaten pizza EVERY WHERE, lmao but I just know it instinctively! I have had pizza from Maine to Florida and as far west as San Diego and have never had another pie like PEPES OR MODERN! You can’t ever go wrong with a New Haven ahbeetz! It truly IS that excellent of a pie !
Came here on a Sunday at 1 for some renown pizza was not disappointed. I am a NY/NJ pizza fan, thin crust with slightly sweet tomato sauce and slices you can fold. The parking was tricky on a Sunday and after seeing the lines at the other spot up the block Sally’s we waited in line for about 10 minutes but decided on take out from the smaller spot around the block. Walked right in and ordered. The were 4 guys making pies and after about 30 minutes I was enjoying a plain cheese pie and a margarita with the family. No slices so we had left overs. The plain cheese was a bit oily and floppy with the tangy element to the sauce it was an amazing I understand the criticism of well done but this is intended. The texture of the margarita pie was crisp like a cracker with cornmeal on the bottom. Amazing sauce and texture. Will try to come back again and sit down for lunch next time. 2 pies was $47 usd
Food is overrated. Kinda burned. Staff kinda rude. But, good price.
Really good pizza, but waaay too much hype. Ordered the original tomato pie, the pepperoni with hot honey, and the white clam pizzas. Everything was good. The tomato pie was our favorite. The sauce and other ingredients were fantastic, but the crust was too tough. Not chewy, not crispy, just tough. Online ordering was a breeze, even with the volume. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area, but there are better places out there.
Incredible! Everything you could hope for in a Neapolitan pizza. Perfectly cooked crust, fresh ingredients, and good quality cheese.
